Meet Jacinto Branchino

Meet Jacinto Branchino

Here is an interview with the builder who leads the construction work in Linga Linga.

Please introduce yourself?

My name is Jacinto Branchino. I was born in Quelimane in the province of Zambézia north of Mozambique.

Have you had the opportunity to go to school?

Yes, I’ve studied until fourth grade and stopped because of the civil war.

War sounds terrible, what did you do after the war?

After the war I started to work in Gorongosa in central of Mozambique with finding land mines with a metal detector. When I saw a person step on a land mind I decided it’s too dangerous work and went back home where I decided to take on a new profession.

How awful with land mines, but it was a wise decision to quit. What kind of profession?

I started first with small business of selling and after the big floods 2001 I started to learn how to build. I learned my skills when we were building up homes for the families that lost their homes with the floods.

So you became a builder?

Yes, today I’ve been working as a builder for more then a decade and I’ve lead the building of the maternity clinic, two classrooms and now the houses for nurses in Linga Linga.

How is it to work as a builder?

It’s something I like and I like to support our community and teach others.

Many thanks for your time Jacinto!

We wish you all a nice week!
